The Farm has been an integral part of Olney life since its commencement in 1837. For over a hundred years, Olney was a nearly self-contained operation, purchasing from outside sources only a few ingredients such as flour and sugar. Over time, technology, rules, and regulations have changed farm products, but its role still speaks to Olney's mission.
Today, the farm and garden are once again starting to provide students and staff nutritious produce and meat that are free of chemicals and grown responsibly. They also provide a unique learning environment. From making tomatillo salsa, caring for livestock, studying soil health or finding new subjects to photograph, there are many opportunities for students to enhance their academic experiences. Another role is to provide opportunities for students to discover the rewards of hard work, working together and developing responsibility. Whether they help grow produce or simply eat it, all students will experience bounties and benefits of the farm and garden.
